It’s amazing to watch a talented and young artist mature at his craft to become a world-class producer. This is certainly the case with Mat Zo…but he’s still really young! Ever since he first appeared on Tiesto’s In Search of Sunrise 7: Asia in 2007, I’ve had the opportunity to follow his development from young prodigy to elite trance producer.
Although the twenty year-old has displayed a lot of diversity in his style, he is the master of poignant melodies. Actually, I talked about one such track, The Lost, in my first blog post ever. His new track Near The End, released on Anjunabeats, is a continuance of Zo’s deeply emotive style.
I can’t think of one artist featured in as many studio mixes as Zo this year. Near The End was featured on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance 2010. Zo’s massive hit24 Hours, was included in Cosmic Gate’s Back2Back4, and a remix by Rank1 was featured on Sander van Doorn’s recent release From Dusk Till Doorn. Like The Lost and Near The End, 24 Hours’ tranquil melody evokes a powerfully pensive mood that I love. As an added bonus, I’ve also included his remix of Lange’s Live Forever, featured on Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats Vol. 8, for your listening pleasure. If you’re a fan of Zo’s stuff, make sure to check out his own studio mix with Super8 & Tab on Anjunabeats Worldwide 02.
