ZHU Reveals Identity In First-Ever U.S. Interview

While the enigmatic producer known ZHU (pictured above) may not have taken home the 2015 Grammy for Best Dance Recording (that honor went to Clean Bandit and Jess Glynne), he still made a huge splash when he decided to open up about his identity in an interview with the Los Angeles Times.

Thanks to a previous interview with Australia’s Triple J, we already knew that ZHU is a singer, has an affinity for jazz, and currently resides in L.A. ZHU has now revealed himself to be 25-year-old San Francisco native Stephen Zhu. He is the main producer and vocalist behind all of his tracks and–no surprise–wants listeners to focus first and foremost on the art.

“This project is all about art, and we try to make it all about the songs and the response. Being able to have everyone focus back on music is the first step. But the second is to have influence and have people care.”

ZHU also revealed that he is looking towards some unique collaborations in the future.

“There are some things in the works. We’re looking to collaborate with people who are artists in their own right. Who are uniquely different but come together, we can make cool stuff. Kind of like how Jay Z and Linkin Park did.”
