Rottun wrecking ball Excision is back with a brand new EP with fellow Toronto dubber Downlink. If you’ve been keeping up with the dub side of LT3, you’ll notice that Rottun Recordings has been on a hot streak this year, with releases by Datsik and newcomer Chaosphere paving the way for this one. Make no mistake–the duo of Excision and Downlink has a very, very violent history.
You might recognize the title song, Existence, as the mind-ripping introduction to Excision’s 2010 Shambhala compilation, a sixty-track mix of pure dubstep destruction put together by the X himself. The VIP mix takes it even further with an absolutely ridiculous tempo shift into drumstep right in the middle of the song. For Not Enough, the pair taps into their metal-driven inspiration for dubstep, creating a emotive fusion track that’s sure to rock on all fronts. Then, there’s Blue Steel. I’m not sure where to begin with this one–some of the snappiest, well-produced drumstep I’ve ever heard seems to suffice as a description. Having personally caught the duo in concert in NYC, I can attest that Excision and Datsik’s wild style of mixing is strong in both their productions and their live shows.
