With support coming by way of Roska, Redlight, Skream, Gorgon City, and Toddla T to name a few, rising Bristol producer Woz has been carving his name into dancefloors since his debut on Black Butter Records back in 2011. Originally signed by the label after an impressive reworking of RackNRuin’s Territory as part of a remix competition, Woz’s unique blend of garage, bass, and house has also garnered support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1xtra, and recently won him DJ Mag’s award of One to Watch in 2014. After capping off 2013 with the massively addictive tune Early Morning Champagne, Woz now makes his 2014 debut with another resplendent house track on Black Butter Records called Breathe.
Peeling back Breathe’s deep house veneer reveals an incredibly sophisticated composition with unorthodox sound design and a multitude of synthetic layers. From woodblocks and pitched claps to fluttering, dissonant synths and squelchy bass stabs, Breathe is anything but a conventional four-on-the-flour house track. However, it’s the Breathe’s feverish vocal sample that gives it a dark and sweaty aesthetic suitable for hours of dancefloor undulation.
