The other day I brought you guys the free download of the drumstep remix of Move, courtesy of bassmasters Will Bailey and Josh Gard, aka Figure. Hailing from the Midwest, Gard has made a name for himself over the past year with his frightening arsenal of basslines that encompass both the dubstep and electro realms–an attribute he happens to share with British collaborator Will Bailey. So while there’s little doubt that the dubstep and electro genres are inundated with talent, I can’t think of too many artists who can whip out bangers on both ends at once quite yet. This time around, Figure does just that but with the even more eclectic UK artist: Calvertron (pictured)–electro/dubstep alter ego of acclaimed techno artist Alex Calver. That’s not to say Calvertron himself isn’t established as well. In fact, he’s frequently cited as one of world’s best bassline producers.
Together, Figure and Calvertron present Bring the Bass Back. The original mix is a devastating track with UK-style wobbly house written all over it; think Jack Beats with a hint of French house during the breaks. Altogether, it’s catchy as hell. I love the pleasantly unpredictable variations in the beats and wobbles that come with every drop. To top it off, Calvertron has also released a dubstep remix. Like the original mix, the remix has great variations that escalate the bassline with every drop. Keep an eye out for more tracks by these guys, and from Calvertron’s sick label Jack Knife Records.
