Lady Gaga’s gotten an extreme EDM makeover on her most recent #1 single Born This Way by heavy hitters Dada Life, Michael Woods, and Zedd. If that list excites you, you’ll be happy to know that each and every one of them deliver. Dada Life kicks off with easily one of their best works to date. It’s got the signature quirkiness that we’ve come to know and love from the duo, but their use of the vocals in the original is unlike anything we’ve heard from them before. This one’s in my running for top tracks of the year already.
Next up we have Michael Woods, whose remix has that characteristic Woods sound to it. Building up steam slowly, you’ll know from the start that this is meant to be an altogether different experience than the previous remix. It’s got totally a different, action-packed punch in the drops that gives it a slightly dirtier feel.
Finally we have Zedd’s remix, which uses substantially different portions of the original vocal than the other two on the way up then slams you with a sack of electro bricks as you land on the spiky basslines that lie at the base of this track. And that’s only the beginning . I’ve listened to this several times on repeat and my jaw has not closed for one second. It’s just flat out unbelievable that he is able to move among the various segments of the track like he does.
Between the three remixes here I think it’s safe to say this one wins my vote for favorite release thus far of 2011. Be sure to check out the trippy video of the original below! I’m going to go lie down now.
