Not much is yet known about Los Angeles-based producer Whiiite, but since his inception in May of this year, he’s already produced official remixes for Rusko & Cypress Hill, Nelly Furtado, and Tonite Only on V2, Interscope, and Ministry Of Sound, respectively, and yesterday we finally got the release of his 5-track debut EP, Whiiite Begins, on Melbourne’s Vicious Bitch Recordings.
Seamlessly blending electro, dubstep, and moombahton, Whiiite showcases his innate prowess for production in Whiiite Begins, incorporating haunting progressive chords and high-energy vocal samples. Whiiite’s knack for electro shines through in tracks like Nightmare and the collaborative effort with Kids At The Bar, Torment, where eerie synth leads are met with hard-hitting drops for uptempo productions that get the blood pumping.
Whiiite then dips into the dubstep/drumstep realm with Broken, a collaboration with LA duo Prima Volta and vocalist Stazz, juxtaposing her angelic vocals with aggressive, downtempo breakdowns. The collaboration with Schoolboy, Houdini, is aptly titled. Tricky and deceiving, Houdini utilizes a Classically-influenced piano riff to encourage a sense of comfort, but it isn’t long before the smoke and mirrors are removed and an unforgiving serving of bass is dealt. LessThan3 favorite Valentino Khan hops on board for the final collaboration, Paradise, where Whiiite’s progressive-sounding piano is slapped once again with a wonky break while including a resonant amount of moombahcore influence.
