Tech house is possibly the most hypnotic of all EDM genres. With its deep basslines and thumpy beats, it’s difficult not to fall unknowingly into its tracks’ entrancing control. Owl’s Nest, an original brought to us courtesy of Ida Engberg, captures your mind and body…and then some. But before we get into the track itself, let’s consider the title. The imagery is quite fitting for this little tech house gem–picture it: a bunch of owls way up in a nest somewhere in the dead of night getting all hooty and bobbin’ around with the bassline. I see an animated music video in the making.
Easily one of the highlights of this track is the extreme attention to layering detail–both in the addition and removal of them as the song progresses to maintain a high level of energy throughout. It all starts with that driving bass that gives you the okay to strap in for the long haul. At 1:32 we get some highs; 3:05 we go to a more minimal section; 3:35 we get a new drum pattern; 4:21 we get a complete drop out. Finally at 5:22 we reach the climax of the track by reintroducing all of the elements together in a fresh pounding unison that will cause eruption on the dance floors. Well done, Ida, well done.
