Wave Racer turned in a giddy remix of Best Friend, Foster The People’s deceivingly upbeat theme for watching a friend self-destruct, proving he can perk up pretty much any situation.
Sydney’s reigning sheik of shimmering future bass wows once again in his latest with wall after wall of synth surrounded with sonic glimmers and gentle lasers. Why does this and the rest of his productions sound so happy? Maybe because it’s about 90 percent level-up achievement sounds and cheers from mushroom-shaped friends congratulating you for completing a stage. It’s a bit like being praised by your first grade teacher today–warm, satisfying, and nostalgic while being confoundingly surreal and dreamlike. Plus, Mark Foster’s voice comes high-pitched right out of the box, so it’s perfectly suited for Wave Racing, making this another enjoyable, high-speed tear across a beach filled with gold coins courtesy of the Australian talent.
This one’s out soon on Columbia Records.
