Skrillex swooped through Denver on The Mothership Tour June 20 and 21 to bass-test Red Rocks Amphitheater for seismic safety, and his livestreamed performance on June 21 is now available on YouTube.
In addition to being at his “favorite venue in the world,” his two-night stop at Red Rocks carried more weight when he announced that an iconic piece of his live shows will be “docked” for a while. Yes, while Skrill will finish off the Mothership tour with two dates in Boston, Mass. and Portland, Maine in late July, the bass-ship that he’s been flying around in and upgrading for the past few years will not.
He gives his trusty vessel quite the send-off, however, belting out a two-hour set full of the latest in Skrill and OWSLA extended fam material, including some brand new items. He hammers Denver with tunes from the homies Snails and What So Not early on, followed up with some Moody Good, Duck Sauce, and a little fun with Killagraham’s drum & bass edit of Janet Jackson’s Go Deep from 2013, likely after seeing how effective Tchami’s house take has been. Virtually all of Recess gets thrown in at some point, in addition to all-new tracks from MUST DIE!, Major Lazer, and an unidentified remix of Coast Is Clear. Flux Pavilion’s forthcoming flip of Recess closes out the set, during which he spends some time with the fans. We recommend watching until the end.
Despite the bittersweet context, the high-quality video offers a chance for fans everywhere to celebrate with Skrillex as he takes the bass-ship on a victory lap around his number-one venue on Earth–a definite must-watch.
