Pharrell Gets ‘Happy’ at the Oscars

Pharrell Williams and his hat stopped by last night’s Academy Awards ceremony to perform his Oscar-nominated track “Happy.”

Featured in the animated comedy Despicable Me 2, “Happy” recently became the highest-charting Oscar-nominated song in over a decade. The track was nominated for Best Original Song alongside a juggernaut list of acts including The Moon Song by Karen O, Ordinary Love by U2, and winner Let It Go from the movie Frozen by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.

During his performance, Pharrell made his way into the audience to get down with a number of A-listers like Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Meryl Streep (August: Osage County), and Amy Adams (American Hustle). Jamie Foxx, accompanied by his daughter Corinne, joined a massive cast of dancers onstage to help close out Williams’ performance. The two were also featured in the singer’s 24-hour music video for the track.

In addition to the Despicable Me 2 Soundtrack, “Happy” can also be found on Pharrell’s latest album G I R L. Out now, G I R L is Pharrell’s first album in eight years and features collaborations with Daft Punk, Justin Timberlake, and Alicia Keys.
