WATCH: Pete Tong Hosts Orchestral Concert Of Dance Anthems

Pete Tong–in association with BBC Radio 1–brought a taste of Ibiza to the world of classical music on July 29 as he hosted the first Ibiza Prom at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Originally only available to UK viewers, the first act is now on YouTube for all to enjoy.

The Proms are a series of classical music concerts held every year in the UK and have been a staple of the BBC’s output for several decades. A decision to bring the institution into the modern age and appeal to younger people gave way to the idea of a dance music-themed event, and so the Ibiza Prom was born. Broadcast live on BBC Radio 1 and curated by Tong, the classical side of the performance was provided by the Heritage Orchestra–an orchestra group that rejects the usual repertoire and performs modern pieces instead. Backed by beats spun by the Essential Mix master himself, the show saw performances of seminal tracks such as Fatboy Slim’s Right Here Right Now, Energy 52’s Cafe Del Mar, Faithless’ Insomnia, and plenty more.
