It’s been a while since I heard a pop remix that got me excited, but Alvaro has done it once again. Using minimal elements and island rhythms, he has managed to give a new sound to Usher’s hit OMG. Considering the popularity of some of his tracks, I figured it would be pretty easy to find information on Dutch electro-tribal trickster Alvaro online, but surprisingly, I had no such luck. Anyone out there know more about this guy?
As you can hear from his OMG remix, Alvaro thrives in simplicity–he lets the heavily-accented syncopations of the rhythm section carry his tracks; this is most apparent at the end of the track. You can hear this as well in his remix of N.A.S.A.’s Whachadoin’, which has been one of my favorite tracks in the Dirty Dutch realm for a while. Alvaro’s tracks are sure-fire party starters in almost any setting; they almost have a “novelty party song” sound, but I mean that in the best sense of the phrase. Go ahead; try them out for yourself.
