It’s safe to say that LA-based DJ collaboration Cold Blank have had a good year. Finding success through the internet electronic music giant that is Beatport, Christopher Gaspar and Manny Luquin have earned the respect of many big-name DJs and internet EDM lovers alike. This newfound success has even given them the opportunity to create their own Beatport label, Burn The Fire, which launched in August of last year. Track after track, Cold Blank has consistently stayed on the top of the charts at Beatport, as well as having airplay on KIIS-FM, LA’s Power 106FM, and BBC 1 Radio.
Although released last year, Cold Blank’s remix of Does It Offend You, Yeah?’s We Are Rockstars really has staying power. Does It Offend You, Yeah? uses a fairly grimy and distorted sound on the majority of their tracks, and Cold Blank tactfully takes that sound and brings it up a few levels. Additionally, the duo has recently asserted themselves as a group with real range. The group recently took a stab at tech house with Nibiru, a track off their recent EP, 2012. Without going over the top, the song carries the feel of an epic classic monster movie. It just goes to show what some good sampling can do. The rest of the song carries a big bouncy beat with simple, yet catchy rhythms. If Cold Blank keeps turning out bangers like this, there’s no doubt that they are on their way to legend status. Turn the volume up and get ready to dance; just be careful not to blow your speakers on these tunes.
