Tiesto (pictured) has been through various phases in his long and fruitful career, some more underground than others. The pop-tinged, radio-friendly tunes on 2014’s A Town Called Paradise may have been about as mainstream as it gets, but that doesn’t mean Tijs is settling down for a life in the Billboard Top 100. Blow Your Mind is his second collaboration with fellow Dutch producer and protégé MOTi, and it’s an electro house anthem far more at home in the clubs than on chart radio.
Packed with energy from start to finish, it’s all about massive riffs and even bigger percussion–that style of electro house that channels the early ‘90s rave scene, suited for darkened warehouses, strobe lights, and profusely sweating bodies. Now we admit Blow Your Mind isn’t minimalist tech house. We even admit the little break complete with trap-esque beats and, yes, even an air horn sample is a little unusual–but it’s a side to Tiesto your average club-going, festival loving, underground-worshipping EDM fan isn’t going to turn their nose up at. Most of all, though, it’s proof that Tiesto can still put his heart into creating music for clubs, no matter what his detractors might say.
Blow Your Mind is out now on Tiesto’s own Musical Freedom imprint as a Beatport exclusive, and you can view the somewhat bizarre, bowls-based video below.
