Sub Focus is one of the few drum & bass producers that is constantly expanding the boundaries of EDM. From his innovative live-sets incorporating motion sensors and iPad controllers to his meticulous production techniques, the drum & bass prodigy has been pushing the envelope of creativity since his debut back in 2003. As the Liverpudlian begins to throttle down his busy tour schedule to get back in the studio, his fans wait with bated breath for his sophomore album, due out sometime in early 2013. In the meantime, Sub Focus has just released a new tune on Mercury Records entitled Tidal Wave, a liquid drum & bass roller with remixes coming from Dutch house maestro Chuckie and dubstep capo KillSonik, among others.
After reaching the 23rd position on the UK singles chart with his last tune Out The Blue, Sub Focus reloads the same feel-good vibes in his latest song Tidal Wave. Tidal Wave features rising UK electropop duo Alpines, with the tune’s fiery vocals coming from vocalist Catherine Pockson. The melody is simply musical–a musicality that is sometimes subdued in favor of elaborate sound design. Fortunately this addictive melody makes it in to all of the remixes almost completely intact. Dubsteppers can rest assured that KillSonik has imparted the tune with proper dose of filth and distortion, with nearly every synth having some form of caustic grinding quality. Dutch house fans can also rejoice, as Chuckie brings his dirty sound palette to the party on his remix, with a syncopated melody laced on top of the original, and a pulsing, rhythmic synth thrown in for extra adornment. Be sure to check out Tidal Wave’s massive trap remix by Flosstradamus and Shadow Child’s exquisite deep house remix as well right here on Beatport.
