The Top 5 Stages of UMF
Ultra Music Festival is back and bigger and better than ever. The three-day Miami extravaganza boasts eight stages this year, and people must be excited about it–it sold out over two months in advance. Each arena at UMF 2012 has been carefully curated with the best artists in house, trance, dubstep, and techno. What stages promise to be among the most exciting? Check out our choices for the Top 5 domes, tents, and stages that Ultra has to offer.
The BAO Dome
Hard Rock Sofa - Quasar (Original Mix) [Axtone]
The BAO, or “Beats As One," Dome, is a 90-foot spherical structure that features high-flying dancers and other feasts for the eyes that will be planted near the entrance, similar to its placement in 2011. This year, it’s being sponsored by and LessThan3! That’s right, folks–we will be bringing you some of the best in house and electro, including Swanky Tunes, Spencer & Hill, Felguk, Bassjackers, Lazy Rich, Hard Rock Sofa, and our own Luke Da Duke!
UMF Worldwide
Calvin Harris - Feel So Close (Dillon Francis Remix) [Fly Eye]
To celebrate the 2012 expansion of Ultra Music Festival to Korea, Ibiza, Brazil, Argentina, and Poland, the UMF Worldwide stage has combined some of the most eclectic and electric talent around. Genres run the gamut at this stage, with acts like d’n’b superstars Camo & Krooked, jack-of-all-trades Alvin Risk, MiM0SA, Nadastrom, Paper Diamond, Treasure Fingers, and Jes. On Saturday, the stage will be renamed “Annie Mac Presents," and the BBC Radio 1 DJ will have the opportunity to showcase some of her favorite acts, including Brodinski, Gesaffelstein, and Dillon Francis.
Carl Cox & Friends/Cocoon Arena/ASOT 550
W&W - Invasion (ASOT 550 Anthem) [Armada]
The famous “Carl Cox" tent will rebrand itself three times in three days this year. On Friday, the familiar “Carl Cox & Friends" theme will be present, with Carl spinning out of his spaceship-like DJ booth, along with Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, and Loco Dice. Famous techno label Cocoon takes over on Saturday, featuring a second performance by Cox, as well as sets from Sven Vath, Magda, and Seth Troxler. Finally on Sunday, Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance 550 tour will show up and show out, with performances from Armin himself, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, Dash Berlin, Sander van Doorn, Cosmic Gate, and Tritonal.
The Live Stage
Run DMC - It's Tricky (Pretty Lights Live Remix)
The Live Stage is a treat every year, mostly featuring more avant-garde acts who take their performances in unique and interesting directions. This year will be no different, featuring performances from fathers of electronic music Kraftwerk, Pretty Lights, Miike Snow, Neon Indian, Jack Beats, Digitalism, Mord Fustang, Bassnectar, Chase & Status, Flying Lotus, SBTRKT, and Magnetic Man. What a diverse set of performances that will be!
The Main Stage
Skrillex feat The Doors - Break'n A Sweat (Zedd Remix) [Big Beat]
And now we come to the grandest of them all: The Main Stage. Always the largest of the structures, The Main Stage is where the majority of Ultra revelers congregate, and for good reason–the biggest acts in the world show up there. This year, expect show-stopping offerings from Tiesto, Skrillex, Afrojack, Nicky Romero, Avicii (who is promising a brand new stage setup), Justice, Duck Sauce, A-Trak, Zedd, David Guetta, Kaskade, Knife Party, and Cazzette, just to name a few. Clearly, you will be fighting your way to the front at this stage.
