The end of an Ibiza season is bittersweet, a celebration of electronic music in one of its most brilliant hubs. As each year on the White Isle has flourished, so too has Sven Väth and his Cocoon Ibiza series. Lavish parties, unrivaled hedonism, and some of the most advanced electronic music in the world can all be found in the Cocoon experience. Väth is now set to make his first ever appearance at the BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen next to a top-notch lineup, and he’s sharing his 2012 Cocoon Ibiza adventures with the rest of the world in The Sound Of The 13th Season. Want to have a listen? Well, we’re giving away a copy of the legendary taste-maker’s new compilation to celebrate his BPM debut!
Disc one begins with Question Mark; are you ready to dance? Breakout producer wAFF’s Jo Johnson lends some funky house grooves, and that’s when the techno takes hold. Planetary Assault Systems, Ben Sims, and Sam Paganini get dark and dirty before the hypnotizing climax of Sawlin’s Datamen Working, and Väth doesn’t let up with more driving beasts from P.A.S. and Exercise One.
As the first disc gets more subdued, disc two opens up with a more Balearic feel courtesy of Makam. Dixon’s sultry edit of Romanthony’s classic The Wanderer sets the dance floor alight, then it’s down the rabbit hole with &ME’s Everless and out to left field on Roman Flügel’s Cookie Dust, one of the most intriguing tracks of 2012. Väth’s massive collection extends to distant galaxies ruled by Four Tet and Uner, before coming back to Earth with the perfect closing tune in John Tejada’s remix of The Return Of The Annunaki.
The Sound Of The 13th Season is a beautiful collection, one that captures the true spirit of Ibiza. To win a copy, follow @LessThan3 on Twitter and retweet this to enter. And don’t miss out on Sven and his Cocoon showcase this January, scoop up your BPM tickets quick!
