The Range Shares ‘Slow Build’ From New EP ‘Panasonic’
The Range - Slow Build (Original Mix) [Donky Pitch]

James “The Range” Hinton emerged as one of the most unique voices operating at the crossroads of experimental and accessible bass music with Nonfiction, his fully-formed debut that arrived last fall through the British label Donky Pitch. On March 24, he’s set to follow up that album with Panasonic, an EP of new material written while on tour across the US.

Slow Build, the lead single from the EP, shows Hinton further refining his patented sound, and everything appears to be right where we left it on Nonfiction: the grimy, buzzsaw bass, the skewed vocal snippets, the disarmingly delicate melodies and textures. The secret to The Range’s formula lies in the way he manipulates the light and dark elements of his tracks so that both are able to flourish in careful, well-balanced juxtaposition.
