Once again, France’s new prodigy is giving Porter Robinson a run for his money. And Girl Talk, for that matter.
Madeon is sixteen and pregnant, but with talent instead of a baby. He has been on a streak of amazing remixes, including his Wolfgang Gartner anthology, Pendulum and Deadmau5 reworks, and his take on French band Yelle’s Que Veux Tu, perhaps my favorite. A spacey, Italo-disco anthem with plenty of Justice slap bass influences to go around, Madeon’s recent concoction, if nothing else, solidifies his ability as a professional producer, and slaps the music industry in the face as a completely unsigned artist.
As If the remix wasn’t enough, Madeon uploaded a video to his YouTube channel (below), pushing his live performance status to a new high. Armed with a Novation LaunchPad, a MIDI mixer, and Ableton Live, the young DJ/producer mashes up 39 songs, from Justice to Madonna to Michael Jackson, and remixes by greats like Danger, Fred Falke, and… well… himself. The magic this young man cooks up in the studio is currently unrivaled by any producer I’ve seen before. Everything he touches turns to pure gold.
