If you’ve hit a big festival in the U.S. this year, chances are they were there. Norwegian chill masters Röyksopp have been touring extensively for the past few months, making appearances at cross-country giants Ultra Music Festival and Electric Daisy Carnival, as well as numerous big-city venues. Having caught one of their live sets, my respect for the duo has only grown; blending together live instrumentals and that signature ambience, Röyksopp lays down the thunder with just a side of downtempo chill.
After the long touring season, they’ve finally churned out some new studio works that you can download for free on their website. First is a fourteen-minute long beach cruiser, the aptly named Shores of Easy. The track takes its sweet time developing itself through layers of atmosphere and beats, but the at climax, the energy truly starts to radiate. Next, they remixed London instrumental pop group The Irrepressibles’ In This Shirt, creating an epic vocal downtempo sonata perfectly underscored by a touch of signature RYXP (Röyksopp’s new acronym) synths. You can bet that I’ll be rocking both of these on quiet fall evenings.
