We’re back with the 23rd episode of our series with Beatport known as The Beatport Box, where we bring you the best of Beatport exclusives on a weekly basis. This week we’ve got a Pete Tong/Pleasurekraft collab (!), a Fehrplay release on mau5trap, the return of techno kingpin Roland Klinkenberg, and much more.
Techno | Roland Klinkenberg – Construct #1 [Green]
Roland Klinkenberg is a legendary producer coming out of the Dutch techno scene, influential and prominent since the ’90s. His return to form comes to us via Joris Voorn’s Green imprint and is a true lesson in timeless techno power. Huge reverb saturated chords and clever melodies sit perfectly inside an infectious groove designed for sweaty warehouse raves. Both tracks found on Construct #1 are clearly influenced by dub techno, and will no doubt sound absolutely incredible on big systems. Purchase here.
Deep/Techno | Pete Tong & John Monkman – The Bumps EP [Suara]
If you’ve never heard of Pete Tong, you should probably sell your headphones and find a new hobby. For everyone else, we’ll skip all the hype around Mr. Tong and jump straight to the release itself, because it’s the bomb. Released on Suara, The Bumps EP is a collaboration with John Monkman and a truly tripped out deep house chugger with hypnotic synths and sunrise vibes through and through. Pleasurekraft take up the remix duties with a much larger remix that suits the times when the sun is far from rising and the party is destined to never end. Get it here.
Progressive | Fehrplay – Pyara (Original Mix) [mau5trap]
Some sort of musical relationship is certainly brewing between deadmau5 and Eric Prydz, with the news of their upcoming gigs together, and now this–Pryda staple Fehrplay releasing on the mau5′ label. Pyara is a prime-time powerhouse which blends the best elements of both Fehrplay’s big room emotive sounds with deadmau5′ ability to find a catchy hook in all of his releases. Unstoppable grooves with heavy arpreggiated synths that reminiscent of the glory days of trance. Get Pyara here.
Big Room/Electro/Trap | Alvaro & Dirtcaps – Dagga (Original Mix) [Smash The House]
Dutch DJ/MC trio Dirtcaps has teamed up with Alvaro of Make The Crowd Go and Welcome To The Jungle fame to produce the big room/trap hybrid Dagga, a track that is sure to stand out in any standard mainstage set that you hear these days. The track comes via Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s Smash The House, a label known for pushing the boundaries of big room sound. Pick up Dagga here.
Trance | David Gravell – The Last Of Us (Original Mix) [Armada Captivating]
Armada recently created/rebranded three new sublabels–Armada Deep, Armada Trice, and Armada Captivating–which have set out to bring the world the best in deep house, big room/electro, and forward-thinking trance, respectively. One of the first releases to come from Armada Captivating is explosive track The Last Of Us from master of “big trance,” David Gravell. Similarities could be drawn to Mark Sixma and W&W, but one thing’s for sure–this is a massive crowd pleaser likely to be heard in many A State Of Trances to come. Grab it here.
