Not even twenty years old, Melé has created more buzz with his music than any of his teenage contemporaries could possibly imagine, save one duo from south London named Disclosure. Both Disclosure and Melé have seen an unprecedented rise in popularity over the past year with with both acts getting considerable exposure from BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac. Now, the prodigious young talents have finally crossed creative paths on the Melé remix of Disclosure’s latest EP Tenderly.
Admittedly, the Liverpudlian is heavily influenced by UK grime and ’90s US hip hop, and for his remix of Tenderly, those influences are ever present. With a bassline that’s pleasantly similar to Chase & Status’s Eastern Jam, the remix feels instantly familiar, allowing immediate synchronization to its head-bobbing rhythm. The foundation of the tune, however, is its catchy piano chord progression that never seems to get stale. Harmonies aren’t new territory for Melé as most of his tracks employ addictive chord progressions from start to end–a common trait of a great musical mind. For Melé fans, this remix can be found for free on Annie Mac’s SoundCloud page. Now Melé just needs to let his fans know when he plans on releasing the massive Beamer.
