Sometimes it can take years of countless releases for a trance artist to build up recognition. Other times, it takes one EP. Nick van Mansum, better known as Aerofoil, is set to do just that with the fresh release of his debut EP on Coldharbour Recordings, Caress 2 Impress.
The EP includes original tracks from Aerofoil as well as a remix from the Coldharbour chief himself, Markus Schulz. Each track can be described as nothing short of tech trance gold. For those expecting high-in-the-sky trance, beware! Feel good melody was definitely not what Aerofoil had in mind. Hard tech beats at 100% party mode? Very much so. The biggest winner of the bunch though, is Markus Schulz’ “Big Room Reconstruction” of Caress 2 Impress, which was featured a few months ago on his fantastic compilation Prague 2011. The master of dark trance adds even more sizzle to Aerofoil’s addictive tech beat, and a stadium melody that really takes the track to new heights. A penultimate festival anthem, Caress 2 Impress is one of the best trance tracks of the year.
Aerofoil’s Vortex hits the mark again with an in-your-face attitude and an even harder tech beat. While not a part of this release, I also had to include another tech bomb, Xplod 2011, a collaboration between Aerofoil and another one of my favorite tech trance producers, Marc Simz. The addition of fresh talent like Aerofoil and Klauss Goulart can only mean that a brighter future lays ahead for the already thriving tech trance genre.
