Massive Attack’s seminal 1998 hit Teardrop has long been a dance classic, frequently used in TV and film, yet it still manages to maintain its reputation as a well-respected piece of songwriting. Now, 18 years after it was originally released, Canadian heroine Sydney Blu has concocted her own tech house remake of Teardrop, and it’s rather special indeed.
Featuring the vocals of Jamie Lee Wilson, who provides a performance that is easily on a par with the original efforts of Elizabeth Fraser, Sydney manages to retain the chill-out, trip hop feel of the original, while injecting a smooth and soulful groove that gives the track a totally different lease of life.
With plenty of support already behind it, Teardrop is shooting its way up the Beatport charts. Pick it up here.
