As BT edges closer to the release of his ninth artist album, the singles are coming thick and fast. A Song Across Wires is released in August, but in the meantime we’re treated to another taste of what the album will have to offer, this time with the help of UK vocalist Matt Hales, aka Aqualung.
Surrounded is another example of BT’s talent as a songwriter in addition to his prowess as a producer. It’s a well written song in it’s own right, but thanks to some absolutely exceptional production techniques, it cleverly treads the line between the mainstream and the underground. There’s almost the feel of a ballad about the opening “verses” of the track, but then the synths kick in and the track builds to a big-room drop. But if you think it’s over and done with, think again. A second drop features some utterly crazy production techniques and an almost mental mash-up of genres–a stunning testament to BT’s skill in the studio.
Surrounded is backed up by a harder, techier remix courtesy of Daniel Van Sand & Ascend, as well as a break-tinged prog-house remix from Sean Darin which continues the experimental feel of the original. If that isn’t enough, there are three more remixes due on July 29th courtesy of Super8 & Tab, MK and Tony Awake.
