Steve Angello Parts Ways With Columbia For ‘Wild Youth’ Release

Former Swedish House Mafia member and house DJ/producer Steve Angello has parted ways with Columbia Records for the release of his highly anticipated album, Wild Youth.

Thump reports that Wild Youth has long been completed and was waiting on the outcome of a disagreement between Angello and Columbia to be resolved. Ending a relationship with Columbia that lasted a bit less than a year, Angello will move on with the release of the album without the major label. Although the move comes as a surprise to many, the Swedish house star has long spoke about his own label, Size Records, and its high level of creativity. He prides himself on his label’s ability to be independent and do things differently from other imprints. Perhaps most importantly, Angello feels a level of comfort in having a certain amount of creative power at Size Records, something that may have led to his split with Columbia.

Sometimes the most important thing for an artist is not necessarily hitting the #1 spot on the charts, but having full creative control over the music and its release. Having split with Columbia, Steve Angello will be able to move forward with the release of Wild Youth with complete control.
