2015 saw German techno maestro Stephan Bodzin turn heads with his incredible sophomore album, Powers Of Ten. Now, he closes off the year with the equally masterful Powers Of Ten Remixes LP, featuring a who’s who of terrific techno talents.
The massive 26-track offering contains 16 remixes and 10 “synthapellas,” stripped-down versions of the original tracks with just the synths present. From Maceo Plex and Shall Ocin’s progressive take on the title track (featured in The Technodrome) to Fur Coat’s dark, driving rework of hit single Singularity, there is an abundance of delicious new underground tunes to chew on.
I’m hard-pressed to truly pick my favorites of the bunch, because quite frankly every remix comes correct. Whether it be longtime Bodzin collaborator Marc Romboy’s menacing take on Ix, Pan-Pot’s poignant-yet-tense rework of Zulu, Spanish duo Edu Imbernon and Coyu’s slow-burning twist on cathartic closer Wir, or remixes from Gabriel Ananda, Agents In Time, and Victor Ruiz, there is more than enough here to please everyone. Bodzin’s original offering was my pick for the album of summer, and this remix LP is my go-to choice for the winter.
