This marks the fourth, fifth and sixth Grammy wins for Skrillex, the second straight win in each category and the second year he wins both awards in the Dance/Electronica category. Last year at the 54th Grammy Awards, Skrillex won awards in the same categories.
Controversy surrounded the Grammy Awards this year as Al Walser, a relatively unknown artist from Switzerland, received a nomination for Best Dance Recording for his song I Can’t Live Without You. His track was the only one nominated in the category that hadn’t appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart or sold over a million copies in the U.S. Grammy officials defended Walser’s nomination, despite strong criticism from the dance music community, stating that he legitimately received enough votes by Grammy members to earn the nomination. Speculation over his chances of winning ended today as Skrillex took home the award.
