Skrillex dropped Leaving today over on OWSLA’s Nest, the hot US label’s new subscription based music service (more info here). Leaving is actually a small collection of tracks that really focus on the young star trying some new sounds–something truly refreshing to see.
Leaving opens with an unprecedented soft, analogue atmosphere leading into a funky yet modest drum groove. The tune progresses into something balanced and sonically warm, yet vastly edgy and emotive; one of Skrillex’ best in a while. The Reason falls a bit closer to his clubbier stuff while still being considered something new. The track is a total jam, utilizing a mid-tempo beat that builds to something big and energetic but shows restraint in the long run.
If you’re looking for something completely raging, the Skrillex that many have come to know and love, check out third track Scary Bolly Dub as well as other upcoming OWSLA exclusives over on The Nest. Finally, be sure to check out Skrill and Ellie Goulding’s new video for Summit below.
