Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello are pushing the boundaries of the EDM world yet again. With DJ Mag placing all three members of the Swedish House Mafia in the top 25 and with the release of their first collaborative album, Until One, these EDM all-stars are at the top of the game. Their much-raved-about documentary Take One, to be released November 29, is yet another cherry on top of SHM’s breakout year. And if that wasn’t enough, the guys managed to perform at the 2010 American Music Awards, broadcasted Sunday night on ABC to millions of households.
Hip-hop/R&B megastar Usher and SHM rocked the AMAs with a mashup of DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love, One, and Miami 2 Ibiza (video below). Though the main emphasis of the performance was on Usher’s singing and dancing, you could not mistake the thumping SHM electro beats that brought the entire crowd to a standing ovation.
With the growing trend of mainstream artists collaborating and combining forces with EDM talent, the line dividing both musical worlds is getting blurred. The American music industry has began to realize the full potential and power of EDM, and the various performances at the AMAs by the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Ke$ha, Rihanna, and Katy Perry are a testament to this ongoing EDM takeover. It is going to be quite interesting to see where this growing relationship takes mainstream music in the US, and we will be sure to tell you all about it.
