It’s rare to see a producer with as diverse a background as Matt Fax. At just 18 years old, he’s gone from producing techno and progressive house to uplifting trance, with tracks signed to some of the biggest labels on the scene. His latest release Shift is another example of the progressive trance style he seems to have settled into of late.
Shift certainly shows Matt’s knack for getting some energy and flow into a track, with stompy rhythms and dirty basslines morphing into a beautiful breakdown complete with lush synth stabs and muted piano chords. Progressive trance is all about combining musicality with a driving rhythm, but Shift takes things to another level, with hints of big room house and ambient chillout all in the same track–a testament to Matt’s skill not just as a musician, but as a potential trend-setter.
