I will admit, I am getting a bit tired of the Dirty Dutch sliding trumpet house sound because of its over-saturation and lack of imagination. This “slide whistle house” (as a friend of mine likes to call it) needs to develop a bit more to continue to be an exciting genre, because I am losing interest. However, for this track I will make an exception.
Dutch DJ/producer Chuckie is practically mainstream pop here in America at this point. Signed to Big Beat Records, an imprint of Atlantic Records, the 32-year-old has already worked with the likes of Lil Jon and David Guetta. He is almost single-handedly responsible for the popularity of the Dirty Dutch house sound because of the wild popularity of his track Let The Bass Kick In Miami Bitch featuring LMFAO.
I Got My Eye On You is definitely one of the higher-quality Dirty Dutch tracks that I have heard. Chuckie has been dropping it since WMC days, but this one has somehow continued to float under the radar – a problem which I hope to amend.
There are three elements of this track that make it quite different than other Dirty Dutch tracks: the female vocal, the hip-hoppy bass pattern under the “slide whistle” drop, and the interplay with the melodic section – a section composed by Chuckie, not Nari & Milani. Sounds like these are exactly what this genre needs to stay on top of things. Here’s to Chuckie, and to plain ole musical ingenuity.
