Scuba Offers Acidic ‘Cyanide’ From ‘Phenix 1′ EP
Scuba - Cyanide (Original Mix) [Hotflush]

Hotflush CEO Scuba has announced a trilogy of new EPs entitled Phenix, and he offers a taste of what’s to come with Cyanide, a gut-punching techno affair that stings so good.

It was unclear where Scuba was headed when he abandoned UK dubstep years ago to pursue more house-oriented productions; his 2010 LP Triangulation hinted at a penchant for techno which was further fleshed out on 2012’s Personalities. Where Scuba’s early work could sometimes come off as stuffy or sterile, over time his productions have leaned more and more toward a populist approach, which is in full effect on Cyanide. This is four-on-the-floor techno through and through, packed with undulating, acidic bass, restrained 909 percussion, and plenty of subtle production flourishes that make it clear that we’re hearing the work of a true pro.

Scuba’s Phenix 1 EP is out March 24; keep an eye out for details on subsequent EPs in the trilogy.
