Scuba stopped by Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show over the weekend to debut Curious Paradox, the latest tune to surface from his forthcoming Phenix 1 EP.
We last heard from the Hotflush label head a few weeks back when he dropped Cyanide, an acidic techno track that came fully prepared for the club scene. By contrast, Curious Paradox offers a glimpse at a different side of Scuba’s work, one that’s more about locking into a syncopated, idiosyncratic groove and seeing what kinds of otherworldly vibes can be summoned up from its depths. The track’s sparse melodies and wind-swept effects bring to mind images of the sun setting over a desert landscape, with nothing but an endless stretch of highway reaching out beyond the horizon–so much for the dancefloor.
Scuba’s Phenix 1 EP is set for arrival on March 24.
