SBTRKT (pictured) and Sampha are back on Young Turks with another smooth-as-you-like slice of soulful dance music. SBTRKT was a very busy boy in 2011, dropping not only a well received debut album, but also a host of super-dynamic, danceable EPs that further established the London-based producer as one of the hottest talents around. In addition to two original tracks in Hold On and Ride To Freedom, this 12″, scheduled for an April release, will also feature a remix of Hold On from the mysterious Sisi BakBak, rumoured to be none other than Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.
Hold On is everything we’ve come to expect from a SBTRKT/Sampha collab–earnest vocals paired with clean, colourful house rhythms and synth sparkles. It feels slightly more melancholy than any of their previous tracks together, but second track Ride To Freedom blows away the cobwebs with three minutes of glittering, sickly sweet electro. A producer who may or may not be Thom Yorke fashions Hold On into a sweaty, dimly lit groover, complete with crunching percussion and throbbing bass oscillations.
