SBTRKT’s Flicker has likely announced the masked maker of melodic bassquake’s return to releasing albums. In having more in common with classic Kraftwerk than modern bass, the left-leaning surprise offers intrigue for SBTRKT’s likely forthcoming album.
Flicker’s the first of a series of tracks set to be released since his 2014 album Wonder Where We Land. Regarding his third studio album, SBTRKT told Australia’s Triple J Radio and BBC Radio 1 to expect fewer collaborations and more grime-style tracks, a path divergent from tracks like 2011 smash Wildfire that gave him crossover success. Flicker features an ambient electro melody and breaks that snap at a glacial pace, creating a sound unlike anything else SBTRKT’s ever released.
