Already iconic pop vocalist Sam Smith has now added singing the theme song for latest Bond film, Spectre, to his growing list of career achievements. And, as has been the case with Smith’s breakout performance on 2013’s Latch (and just-released Omen), Disclosure was called in for assistance in producing the track, titled Writing’s On The Wall.
This is one of the highlights of my career. I am honoured to finally announce that I will be singing the next Bond theme song.— Sam Smith (@samsmithworld) September 8, 2015
Disclosure followed up with news of their involvement shortly after.
Regarding the honor that puts him in the same league as other Bond title theme vocalists Carly Simon, Duran Duran, and Adele, Smith stated, “This is one of the highlights of my career. I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible lineup of some of my biggest musical inspirations.” The songwriting process was apparently quite smooth, too, as he told BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw that he “got called into the office with Barbara Broccoli and Sam Mendes, and they gave me the script, I read the script… they said ‘have a go at the song’. It’s the quickest I’ve ever written a song–it took twenty minutes and they loved it! I love the song so much.”
Writing’s On The Wall is expected to be released on Oct. 26.
