The past year has seen the rise of a new sub-genre in the EDM scene–complextro. Influenced from dubstep, fidget, and electro house, complextro started to grow in popularity thanks to artists like Feed Me, Deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, Uppermost, and Lazy Rich. The music itself is complex, often involving multiple synth sounds at once (hence the name). It combines intricate basslines and leads with glitchy vocals or synths–think electro house merged with your favorite Super Nintendo game.
Ryeland sounds like Feed Me and Mord Fustang had a crazy complextro love child, and that right there should get your feet moving. He just recently dropped a brand-new EP, Monsters in Elektron City, a four-track collection of absolute bangers. Every song is crisp and highlighted with beautiful melodies. Random Orderis a definite standout, pulsing with energy and a joyful dubstep vibe. Giga Elektron Volts builds up with epic synths that take the listener on a journey before dropping into a funky dubstep drop.
