Ryan Hemsworth closes out 2013 the same way he began: by releasing a load of insane remixes, this time in the form of ☺RYANPACKv.1☺. A far cry from the sad-boy bass jams found on Hemsworth’s debut, Guilt Trips, the ten-track remix pack finds the young producer merging heavy-hitting American rap with everything from chiptune to mega kawaii J-pop.
That approach is best exemplified by Hemsworth’s magnificent remix of Kush Coma by Danny Brown, in which the Detroit rapper is tossed helplessly into a bass-heavy edit of a Yoshino Yoshikawa song. Elsewhere, Hemsworth chops & screws Disclosure, turns in an early contender for “best bootleg of a Beyonce track,” and throws a pajama party with Lorde in his remix of Ribs.
“I played like 200 shows this year. If you came out… wow. If you stayed at home and listened to my music… wow. If you’ve supported me in any way this year, I thank you and I owe you. Here’s an offering.”
