Rustie Cancels Shows Due To Addiction & Mental Health Problems

Glasgow-based producer Russell Whyte, better known as Rustie, has cancelled all his live performances for “the near future” citing addiction and mental health problems.

The announcement was made by Russell himself via a short message on his social media platforms, where he also stated he “won’t be responding personally for a while,” with his management taking over any posts. The news has been met with a flood of support from fans, a large majority of whom praised him for opening up about his problems. Cancelled shows include a NYE gig in San Bernardino and an appearance at Holy Ship Miami in early January.

Rustie isn’t the first to go public about his mental health issues: deadmau5 took to Tumblr this week to outline his own battles with depression, and dubstep pioneer Benga revealed his struggle with similar problems earlier this year. The news serves as a reminder that if you or anyone you know is suffering from mental health issues, there is always professional help on hand to offer impartial advice, and there is no shame in seeking it.
