If ever there were a man who didn’t give a f*ck about genres, it was Alvin Risk. I was thoroughly impressed and decided to investigate further after Foo Boi wrote about him recently in the categories of dubstep, drum’n’bass, and moombahton. What I found were a slew of amazing tracks that are at the top of their game in each genre they cover. Today’s treats from Alvin? Hard dance, dubstep, house, and some more of the moombah.
First off we have his current hit, the dubstep/hard dance rework of Example’s Stay Awake. It’s quite aptly named as the combination of heavy, fast-bpm bass and synths with Alvin’s gritty wobbles is enough to wake the dead. Next up is Alvin’s proggy/electro remix of Back Flash by Edan Everywhere. This track, while being a house song at the root, has some very nonstandard house rhythms and synth patterns, making it difficult to fit it nicely into one house genre–but as aforementioned, genres don’t really interest Alvin. Once again, it works for him; this track is full of an energy that could be incorporated into virtually any type of set. Finally, we have another one of Alvin’s forays into moombahton, La Campaña with Tittsworth and Maluca. Some very interesting sound palettes are used in this sexy and unique addition to the growing catalog of moombahton tracks floating around the music world.
