LA’s electro house star Steve Aoki has teamed up with “it” producer Sidney Samson, whom we wrote about recently, to create musical caffeine. Wake Up Call incorporates Samson’s larger-than-life buildups with Aoki’s signature wavy synth to take you through a five-minute powerhouse of a track. The track certainly does the job that was so appropriately bestowed upon it by its title. My only gripe with it is that it’s a little too simple. They essentially use the same synth and vocal samples without much variation. That may not necessarily be a bad thing, as many producers follow often opt to follow the “less is more” dogma, but it would have been nice to hear a surprise thrown in the middle somewhere. Aoki and Samson have been dominating the electro scene, and they could have used this chance to flex their electric guns.
But, I’m not complaining. Wake Up Call is still majorly banger. The synth that they do incorporate is downright dirty. It sounds to me like the bastard child of a Laidback Luke drop. I also like what I can only guess is Aoki’s use of screaming “wake up!”. Make sure you brace yourself for this one.
