Resident Advisor shared the first batch of results from their annual user polls today in the publication’s Top 100 DJs, naming 2014’s most impactful acts, with top honors going to such modern-day icons as Seth Troxler and Tale Of Us.
2013‘s champ Dixon (pictured) once again comes out on top of RA’s list, just in front of Tale Of Us, Âme, Troxler, and Maceo Plex at a cool #5.
The RA staff opens with an explanation of the list itself and what it means to be included.
Countless DJs smashed it this year whose names you will not find below up-and-comers, influential scene-leaders, even a few so-called legends. What you’ve got here are not necessarily the 100 best DJs in the world, so much as the 100 DJs who made the biggest splash in 2014. More than anything else, it’s a look at where dance music is at right now.
When contrasted with the similarly crowdsourced DJ Mag Top 100 results, RA‘s results suggest we’re talking about two completely different cultures–and perhaps we are. While RA‘s list and overall scope might lean more toward “DJs’ DJs” than top-billing producers and Vegas residents, it’s hard to imagine that DJ Mag’s annual poll wouldn’t more closely resemble RA’s given a similarly level playing field untipped by massive marketing budgets and the exposure gap between large-scale festivals and nightclubs.
