A good rule to live by as a producer is “don’t mess with the classics,” and this is true even if the classic is your own. But rules were made to be broken, and Rank 1 has done just that with a remake of their magnum opus Airwave.
It’s easy to assume this will just be your standard big room hash of a classic track, but you’d be very wrong. Rank 1 has kept everything that made the original special, and then they’ve built on it. Sure, there are some stompy snare builds and a big room-esque bassline, but the subtle play between simple elements is still at the core of the track. From the famous chords themselves, to the little arpeggio motif, this is a rare example of a remake that actually improves on the original and should be a massive hit over the coming months.
