On the heels of his huge Control EP on AC Slater’s Party Like Us Records, fledgling producer Rain City Riot has just released another white-hot EP showcasing his signature style of of house music adorned with garage ornamentation. The EP, titled Waiting For Me, represents RCR’s first release on his own Rain Maker label and features three original tracks called Dim, Your Clothes, and the title track, alongside a radio edit of Dim.
With notable labels like Toolroom and Defected already signing tracks from the rising producer, RCR’s remarkable ability to straddle house and garage are on full display on his latest release. The EP kicks off with Dim–a sexy track underpinned by a sensual vocal sample and a delicate lead melody. Heavy on groove, Dim also features a muted accompaniment and a few well-placed sound effects for variation. The EP’s next track, Your Clothes, also features a similar percussive organ lead, imbuing the composition with an early ’90s house feel. Your Clothes eventually segues into a meticulously treated vocal, chopped and pitch-shifted into an arresting motif. The last original mix on the EP is the track Waiting For Me, which delivers a very different vibe than the previous two tunes. With Waiting For Me, RCR marries a jagged lead and a ghostly pad to give the tune an early ’80s analog pop aesthetic. All three tracks on the EP are brilliantly written and are certain to raise the profile of this up-and-coming producer. Make sure to pick up the full release right here on Beatport.
