It seems like the entire new generation of EDM artists is late teens to early twenties. With technology evolving at an incredibly fast rate, it would take a fresh, young mind to be able to keep up with all the changes. One such youngster up for the challenge is 21 year-old Nicky Romero of Utrecht. Already riding in on the coattails of approval from such greats as Mark Knight & Fedde le Grand, his brand of hard tech house mixed with more uplifting sounds is coming in at just the right time for maximal popularity.
First up on the playlist is When Love Calls, which is the most uplifting of Nicky’s tracks that I have heard. The syncopated rhythm matched with standard uplifting house synths really give it that extra little touch to make it interesting enough, yet familiar enough to be a massive hit.
Next up is Nicky’s stab at Fedde’s track Rockin’–a track that I have been hearing get a lot of rotation in the clubs recently. It’s no surprise, either; that vocal paired with the metallic slams in the drop are sure to get anyone going. We’ve already posted the original mix, so make sure to have another listen to hear Nicky’s unique take on the track.
Finally we come to a track that Laidback Luke placed in his top ten for this month–his remix of Green Velvet’s Flash. The man otherwise known as Cajmere has a trippy, androgynous vocal tone that Nicky accents to perfection with rolling snare and synths so techy they’re barely there. I’m a huge fan of Romero’s sound here and in all the tracks I mentioned, so expect to see some more tracks from him comin’ your way on LessThan3!
