Amsterdvm’s undisputed trvp lords Yellow Claw have made it their business to bring their Dutch-influenced bass music to bear on brains and booties the world over, and LessThan3 has the exclusive first listen to Preacher, one-fourth of the trio’s collaborative Legends EP with fellow Dutchman Cesqeaux.
Preacher sees the trio sermonize on the topic of twerking as they sing the praises of slow-moving trap with moombahton flair, perfect for tearing off that toga and going absolutely lamb. Roëdny Rosanjo’s vocals bring out the primal feeling in this age-old ritual while a syncopated steel drum throws some extra swing into their disciples’ step.
The anthemic title track is designed to deliver spine chills with a dominating low-frequency rumble that yields its control of the tune only for brief moments of plucky arpeggios and steely cowbell as Kalibwoy hypes each impending drop–a tense, twisting series of synth wails repeatedly torqued to their breaking points. Enjoy Legends in the official video at the bottom.
And you didn’t think were going to come away from this lesson without some stomping hardstyle vibes, did you? The four-track Legends EP boasts some big (read: enormous) trap and bass sounds all heavily influenced by Dutch house and hard dance traditions. As a result, Yellow Claw shows once again that they prefer to approach bass music not by surpassing the field at their own game, but rather by offering their interpretation of popular trap stylings and sonic elements seen through the filter of their Amsterdam upbringings, making for a sound that is uniquely theirs and undeniably powerful.
The Legends EP is due out Oct. 14 on Dim Mak. Pre-order here.
