With Halloween right around the corner, we’ve been itching for some Kafkaesque bass music, and we’ve found it in Chicago producer LoBounce. He self-describes his new, five-track Velvet Hammer EP as an audial “nightmare,” and LessThan3 has the exclusive first listen.
The EP starts off with the aptly named Future, which sounds like an avant-garde mashup of Dog Blood and Gesaffelstein. Next is an acid-tinged, bass-heavy cut that can best be described as “pink elephants on parade.” Physical continues the trip down the rabbit hole, offering a dark, industrial onslaught that feels like something out of a tenebrous warehouse rave. Stylin closes out the EP with a relentless flourish of barbed wire synths, thumping percussion, and boisterous bass that would make Boys Noize proud.
