Though it has been around in various forms for years, the current sound of “piano house” is more uplifting than ever–it’s even a contender with the uplifting sounds of trance acts like Above & Beyond and Tritonal. Made popular by Avicii and now being used by artists like Arty and David Guetta, piano house is the “other sound” heavily influencing EDM right now besides electro and dubstep. Now we have another guy playing the piano house game who has been a bit of an underdog in the scene but just scored a Beatport Top 10 hit–Basto!
I first encountered Basto! on his collaboration with Nicky Romero called When Love Calls and was curious about what role he played on the track, as it quickly became one of my favorite tracks that Romero has touched. Upon hearing more tracks from Basto!, it was clear that uplifting piano house in its purest form was his game. His newest single, Again & Again, is currently the #8 most downloaded track on Beatport, and why wouldn’t it be? It’s uplifting ear candy at its finest and brings piano house down to its essentials–uplifting chord progressions, bells, an impeccable mix, and a melody that makes you want to burst. I’ve also included another recent single of his, Gregory’s Theme, which doesn’t delve far from the Again & Again formula besides the addition of some tribal drums, but as you piano house-heads like me know, it is impossible to get enough of the feeling tracks like this bring you.
